Detroit has long known that the secret to a city’s success lies within the vitality and vigor of the neighborhoods. It’s why the Detroit Land Bank Authority has sold or rehabbed over 17,000 properties, and demolished over 25,000 neglected houses in the past ten years.
Detroit is committed to neighborhood revival as seen through its investment of $28.5 million in neighborhood beautification initiatives and another $16.5 million in block club and neighborhood grants.
To reduce crime and blight, Mayor Duggan introduced side lot sales encouraging neighbors to buy empty lots for $100. The city also earmarked $44.5 million in new or renovated recreational centers and park restorations.
